Voluntary Benefits

Cleveland State University offers voluntary Individual Short-Term Disability Insurance and Voluntary Accident Insurance through Unum.

The premium for these products is not subsidized by the University. Faculty and staff enrolled in these voluntary insurance options will pay the premium through payroll deduction on an after-tax basis.

  • Individual Short-Term Disability Insurance can help you replace a portion of your income if you are unable to work due to a covered injury or illness. This coverage may appeal to an employee who does not have much accumulated paid time off (accrued sick time, vacation or compensation time, as applicable) through the University. Individual Short-Term Disability Insurance provides income during the first 90 days of a non-work-related disability. Age limitations may apply to enrollment eligibility.
  • Voluntary Accident Insurance provides a way for you to offset out-of-pocket medical expenses for a covered injury or illnesses. Coverage is also available for your spouse and/or eligible dependent children, up to age 26.
